“Langkawi” the Jewel of Kedah- Discover a new island

Hey my lovely followers!

Recently I have traveled to Langkawi, a small island in Malaysia. How I landed  up here its a long story but i will tell you in short  I am sure most of you all would have watched the Bollywood Movie “Roy” or at least seen the music video of the song “Tu Hai Ki Nahi” from the movie “Roy” by Ranbir Kapoor and Jacqueline Fernandez. Well! I don’t want to say much about the movie here but this particular song was a beautifully shot one. The location is what caught my attention the most. So much so, that I decided to land up there and experience it myself. The green mountains overlooking the beautiful blue ocean. People always ask me , what do I like the most – A beautiful beach or a mountain. Well after a lot of thought I came to the conclusion lately that even though I absolutely love mountains , I will definitely vote for beaches. Beach life is the best life – just relax , watch the waves and sip on cocktails. That is exactly what I had in mind when I went to Langkawi.

The Malaysian Airways flew me to Langkawi from Mumbai via Kuala Lumpur (Malaysia) , a good 9 hours flight including the stopover (at KL). Thanks to Makemytrip for organizing this trip.It had a detailed itinerary of all the activities I planned to do at Langkawi. Once I reached Langkawi Airport I was greeted by the local tour operator who also drove me to The Westin Langkawi Resort & Spa in a private luxury vehicle. Believe me , all tiredness of my long flight , vanished in moments when I was driven across the beautiful island of Langkawi. I was already falling in love with this island and the roads.

After about three quarters of an hour I reached “The Westin Langkawi Resort & Spa” . I could not believe my eyes as it was a beautiful resort situated on a private beachfront property. The Westin Langkawi Resort & Spa perfectly balances the joys of nature and the spoils of luxuriousness. As the epitome of Langkawi’s 5 star resorts, the Westin Langkawi Resort & Spaoffers a seamless blend of tropical nature with contemporary comfort, making it the ideal beach resort for my exotic escape. With views of the sparkling Andaman Sea, the pristine jewels of nature can be enjoyed from the comforts of this beautiful resort.

To my surprise , I got to stay at one of the Private Pool Villas which boasts of state-of-the-art amenities and the ultimate luxury of an infinity pool. Can’t ask for more on this beautiful island, Can I ?

Day 1 was mostly spent lazing around the resort , just the way I had imagined. The Villa had everything I can ask for a huge hall with plush interiors, a beautiful bedroom overlooking the sea, a huge bathroom with a bath tub, an outdoor shower, a cute little private garden with lawn and my favorite a private swimming pool. Trust me I spent most of my 1st day either in the pool or next to it. I should say that the hotel staff were very courteous and they really know how to take care of their customers. That evening I just strolled around the private beach and watched the Sun go down.

Day 2 : Island Hopping

Day 2 was packed with a lot of adventure as I set out on an island hopping trip from the nearby jetty. I cruised through the southern waters of Langkawi on a yacht. The breathtaking view of clear water and nearby islands was simply fascinating and astounding. Our first stop was on a secluded Island a good 1 hour or so from Langkawi mainland

Next stop was the famous Pregnant Maiden Island which is also a National Park. Here I trekked inside the island to find a fresh water lake. Without any second thought I dipped into this fresh water lake. I could see a few other tourists kayaking in the lake too but I was feeling hungry after my swim. Once we are onboard the yacht, one of the staff started a sea food BBQ. The captain decided to slow down the yacht, as I cruised through the blue waters, munching some tasty sea food. We also stopped briefly for some eagle feeding near Singa Besar Island. Here our captain pointed as to different species of eagles and kites.

It was fun feeding the eagles myself. I also tried a new thing called salt water Jacuzzi, where a net is tied to a slow moving yacht and one can sit on the net half immersed in the sea water. You guys should try it once as it is a fun and more importantly safe way to enjoy the ocean.

The second half of the day was spent mostly relaxing and enjoying the view of the beautiful green hills protruding out of the blue sea. The yacht reached the jetty just before the sunset and I bid farewell to the captain and his staff.

Day 3: Sunset Cruise on a Yacht

Next day I was again surprised by the Westin staff when they rang the doorbell in the morning. This time it was a complimentary breakfast beautifully decorated with tropical flowers and fruits.

The day was very hot so I decided to spend most of the day around the swimming pool. I also tried some local cuisine at one of their many restaurants. I should say I have a thing for Asian food in general. I was very excited about the evening sunset cruise.

At around 4 pm a chauffeur driven luxury car drove me to another jetty. Here I could find many big and small luxury yachts. Most of them have parties going on with tourists from all over the world having a great time. I was escorted to one of the yacht.

I observed that no two yacht is same, they had different themes and lighting. Soon the engine started but unlike the previous day this captain likes to take it easy. And why not, we came to enjoy the sunset and not listen to the loud noise of the engine. We still had some sunlight so it game us one more chance to traverse the Langkawi waters and marvel at the many beautiful islands. There was a multi course BBQ dinner onboard with free flow of alcoholic and non-alcoholic cocktails. I also spotted a few dolphins on the way.

It was definitely one of the best sunsets I have ever seen. As it became dark it was time to shake my legs to some top numbers.

Day 4: Langkawi Sky Bridge

This day I planned to stay on shore and enjoy few of the attractions the island has to offer. One of them being the famous Sky Bridge. Remember the fight scene from the movie Don where Shahrukh Khan and Boman Irani fight each other. Sky Bridge was where it was shot. In fact I was not quite aware of this before my driver told me that. The Langkawi Sky Bridge is one Langkawi’s highlights- a must visit, it is a 410ft-long curved pedestrian bridge above Mount Mat Cinchang. It may sound like a cliché but it is really true – the views from here are simply astonishing! Located 2,300ft above sea level, the Sky Bridge is easily accessible by the Langkawi Cable Car.

The journey to the top starts out at the Oriental Village in the upper northwest of Langkawi Island, near Pantai Kok. Once the cable car gets going it gets a little chilly as winds flow through the ventilation.I had a great time walking across the sky bridge and capturing some breathing taking pictures. There was a “love lock” section also, which I found really cute. That evening after coming back to the resort

I was again surprised by a dinner on the beach. I asked myself, can life be more perfect? But like all good moments, my romance with Langkawi was coming to an end and it was time to bid farewell to this beautiful island and its people.

Thanks to Westin Resorts and makemytrip.com for this wonderful vacation and definitely looking forward to another one soon!!!!
